The turning point.
The moment when we start getting old
“It is better to add life to the days than days to life “.
Do you know who was *Rita Levi-Montalcini*?
She was one of the greater Italian scientist of the last century, having won the Nobel Prize in Medicine .
The only woman in the Italian history to have won a Nobel Prize. She died when she was 103 in 2012 and since her last year of life, I remember, she was present during some tv show and she was actually VERY lucid in her thinking.
She always used to say “I am not the body, I am the mind!”. Great woman.
When she passed away I can’t remember a single person who hasn’t been touched by this event, but you know, our life is a Great Cycle. THE WHEEL OF LIFE…someone calls it like this.
We are born, we grow, we get old and one day…..REMEMBEEER!!!
But did you ever asked your self where is the turning point in our lives? When we switch from being young and we begin to get old…I mean…mentally?
Yesterday, I had a revelation. I was walking around the street and I was so tired that I said to me…let’s go to take a coffee!
So as I entered into a bar. I immediately spotted a free place….and I started listening to the world around.
Usually when I do this, I pretend to look at my phone or to read some newspaper. This time I was pretending to play with the phone….anyway, this isn’t relevant.
What is important is that there were a young guy with what I think could have been his grandpa. They were actually intent on fixing some trouble the older guy had done on his device and he was like :”aaaahh I will never learn how to use this!!”.
The youngster at this point say, and I quote textual words: “You see? THIS IS WHY YOU ARE OLD! BECAUSE YOU REFUSE TO LEARN! WE, WHO ARE YOUNG, ARE ALWAYS READY TO LEARN NEW THINGS!”.
Now I was no more caring to my phone and I was blatantly looking upon the scene. The young guy, who was more or less in front of me, understood that I was staring at that scene and smiled back at me.
Very clever guy! 😂
I paid my coffee and went back to work.
While I was driving, I thought that in the end I NEVER EVER thought about what was, when or where it was the moment in which we begin to decline. “Today it has been revealed to me by a person younger than me.”, I said to me. Maybe he isn’t even aware about the magnitude of his sentence…or maybe yes!!
What I know is that I am very glad that my daughter the day before yesterday, didn’t want to go bed. This caused a delay in the overall order of the TO DO things before going to sleep. Yesterday I was a little upset by this but today I am very thankful to her!! Ahahah..how fast a perspective can change…I’m not so sure I’d needed that coffee without that delay!
