STAR WARS CHAPTER IX EXPLAINED.

With Spoiler

Today I’ll do something I don’t usually do on my blog, which is a movie review WITH SPOILER about the last Star Wars.

I HAVE TO because lately I read so many shit thrown against this movie that it has become unbearable.

I endured too much, too many 25yo stupid nerds claiming to be Star Wars experts, bashing harder as they could just because the movie didn’t meet their stupid expectations.

The main arguments I eared so far:

SCENE CHANGES ARE A DISASTER.

The only point I agree on all the critics I saw on youtube is about the scene changes. They put little to no effort to make them to look better. This can be justified only by a well-reasoned directorial choice.

Nevertheless if you watch the first original trilogy, Lucas managed this aspect the very same way. So it is coherent with the overall OPERA. Go back and watch the original trilogy and you will notice the very same style, the same “holes” between two scenes, some kind of what could seems an “incoherence” inside the story between different Chapters. Take for example the relationship between Luke and Leia in the Chapter IV, that gets twisted later in the V.

What the people should understand going to watch STAR WARS is that they are going to enjoy an OPERA which has his own STYLE.

Can you Imagine for example the SAGRADA FAMILIA, which is getting built from many different architects and all of them as to respect THAT PARTICULAR STYLE.

CHARACTERS DON’T EVOLVE AND CHAPTER VIII IS DISCONNECTED FROM CHAPTER IX.

Are you serious?

Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren has a GREAT evolution from the Chapter VII. It’s inner battle bring him to experience a full revolution from the dark side of the force to the light. In the Chapter VII we see him to be 90% Sith. We see him trying as hard as he can to switch 100% to the dark side by killing his father: Han Solo.

In the Chapter VIII we see him falter. He fails in triggering “the button” to eliminate his mother while his relationship and bound with Rei is strengthened. He realizes he still can't cope with the regret of killing his father…the same father that in Chapter IX, trough Ben’s memory and mental elaboration, put an end to Kylo Ren’s “life”.

Rei in the first Chapter of this trilogy seems to be a nobody’s daughter, she knows about the Skywalker’s feats and she ears the recall from the FORCE. She discover to have some of the Jedi’s attributes while she gets involved in the war between the empire and the rebellion.

In the Chapter VIII she becomes Luke’s disciple. Guided by him, she takes her first steps into the Jedi’s way and at the same time, while she into her self is battled not knowing who she really is, SHE guides both Luke and Ren to put into discussion their life choices.

In the last Chapter we see her to complete the Jedi’s training under Leia’s guidance and we understand she having access to the ancient Jedi’s sacred books. At this point we can say with a good degree of accuracy, that she reached the level of a Master.

Nevertheless she finds out from Ren about her bloodline and she struggles to understand what she will be, until Luke’s spirit returns back to her the guidance, she gave to him in the previous Chapter. In the end SHE DECIDE who she wants to be, regardless whatever happened in the past.

Rei&Ben relationship too has its own evolution throughout all this last trilogy. They get to know each other, probably attracted from THE FORCE itself.

While Rei in the beginning is a totally unexperienced user of the FORCE, Ren is a strong Sith. We can understand this by its ability to stop a laser in mid air in the very first scene where he is introduced. Can you imagine how much focus, cold blood and confidence in his own powers he must have to perform that kind of skill?

Nevertheless Rei can stand Ren’s power because as we will understand in the last chapter they are in many ways bonded in a dyad into the force.

From this time on they begin to be able to connect to each other via FORCE. In the VIII chapter they just evolve their connection being able to talk and a TOUCH each other, trying to READ each other possible evolution. While Rei tries to bring Ren into the BRIGHT SIDE, Ren tries the opposite with Rei, trying to convince her all along the movie to join him on the DARK SIDE.

It is a constant yin&yang game even in the last chapter, where they both begins to be able to interact even with OBJECTS in their proximity. I enjoyed a lot the scene where Rei is on Ren’s ship and Ren is on the planet searching for Rei.

In their last battle against each other, when Rei cures Ren, you should interpret this not only on a physical level but most of all in a very deep SOUL level. Never forget that in STAR WAR’S reality the FORCE is into everything, it is the SOUL of everything more than anything else, meaning Rei is filling the DARK “holes” in Ren’s soul with her BRIGHT power. **AGAIN YIN&YANG.
**

In the end their connection is so strong that In the battle against Palpatine Rei can perceive Ben’s presence and pass to him the light saber….GREAT TAG TEAM MOVE!!!

POWERS AND JEDI MIND TRICKS.

One of the greatest problem people have with Rei is her healing skill. I really can’t understand this one. With this, the director is actually letting us understand how much Rei’s skills as a Jedi are grown from the beginning. Never forget that Rei is presented to us as a person able to REPAIR things from trash….it is already in her skillset.

I find BEAUTIFUL the scene where she is into the underground with Finn and Poe and she has the cold blood to understand that the huge snake needs to be healed while the two guys with her are going mad.

It is meaningful even on higher level of understanding.

I explain this further.

The meaning is that often times we can’t find an exit from a situation because someone obstructs our way out. Most of the people go mad with this, while the best way to act is to recognize that probably the person has been hurt in some way and the best thing we could do, is to find where we can “heal” his pain to be able to go ahead.

This last trilogy shows us indeed the ULTIMATE POWER of a Jedi which is not that to read or influence someone else’s mind. The ultimate power and the best way to use THE FORCE is to HEAL THE PAIN of the “monsters” around us as an exit strategy and to achieve the BALANCE.

THE KISS.

This is also very much discussed. Is it right? Is it wrong? Why this choice?

My take is that even this is very well put out in the overall scheme of things.

The kiss is not at all to be interpreted as a romantic kiss as it was between Anakin and Padme or between Han and Leia. It is most of all a relief kiss, a conjunction kiss from the Yin and the Yang. It means “now the dyad is complete, it is as ONE and no more necessary”.

This is why Ben dissolves right after the kiss.

As last thing I want to give you a very simple reason why IN ANY CASE you should go to watch STAR WARS EPISODE IX:

It embed action, fantasy, Breton cycle, Love, spirituality and many more movie genders, touching the human experience, transposed in a “Star Wars” key.

It matters little if you don’t like action or fantasy genders because Star Wars episode IX is the closing Chapter of the GREATEST SPACE OPERA ever created on this planet.

So…in any case it is well worth to watch.
